very cozy boulevard, to wonder in the evening and to have great food

Greece -> Peloponnese -> Messinia -> Navarino Bay ->

G i á l o v a !

The area of Giálova was first settled at the beginning of 1900. Raisin and wine exports led to the area’s commercial development (the building in front of Giálova Gardens is an old raisin factory). Today the locals are mainly occupied in agriculture as olive oil, citrus fruits, water melons and vegetables. More and more Giálova is being known for its lovely boulevard with famous sunset.

The recent developments of the Costa Navarino projects bring more and more foreign guests to this little village. For the Greeks (from Athens) the newly build highway to this area of Messinia, is a delightful short break destination.

Were you find what in Gialova…

If you leave the premises of Giálova Gardens and cross the main road slightly to the right you will pass the local museum of Giálova. Mr Kostas has a collection of traditional farmer equipment and a lot of old style photos. Surely word a visit.

By entering this road you end up at the beach road, or so called boulevard of Giálova.

if you like a good coffee, visit Ionis cafe
friendly service and good food, Meandros in Gialova
also modern style restaurant on the boulevard of Gialova
the views from the restaurant balconies are extrodinary over the bay area

The first restaurant on the left hand side is called Meandros. The owner’s name is Hanny, who is also our dear neighbour in the little yellow house just before Giálova Gardens.

Her chef prepares the Greek food by the way his grandmother did. More typical Greek can’t be.

Along the boulevard you’ll find a diversity of restaurants. We name a few:

La Cucina and Vergo’s place for which you have to walk up the stairs, next to our cosy living room café Ionis.
Ilia restaurant offers also a lovely atmosphere and a good Greek cuisine.

On the little square of Giàlova you find two local pubs, with the names; Amica and Job for the evening entertainment.

Behind the peer you can use the sun beds of hotel Zoë. The beds are free to use, you only have to consume a drink.

On the road back to the main road you find the supermarket, with opposite the bakery with every day fresh bread and delicatessens.

Next to the supermarket you can order a nice Pita Gyros or souvlaki in the place called Souvlaki.
On the end this street you find café/bar Sugar for a cocktail or refreshing beers.

That’s if you turn right after passing the museum. What if you would have turned to the left….

play some pool in case it’s a rainy day (which hardly happens !) in kafeneon η Ακτή ( i Akti = the coast). After this coffee house you find the blue cash machine if you need some extra euro’s.

The last restaurant on the boulevard on this side is Aplo. Trendy furniture provide a relaxing atmosphere.

Guests about:

“Gialova is much smaller, quieter and less developed than the more known touristic names of Greece – and in my opinion much nicer. The local tavernas are right on the beach, with an amazing sunset. There are a number of good restaurants to choose from, a couple of small shops and that’s about it. In July and August it will be more busy but that is relative – it is a small, quiet place so never gets really hectic. The owners of the hotels and surrounding complexes are concerned to the protection of the local environment. In co-op with a diversity of organisations they try to keep the landscape as natural as possible.” — source: TripAdvisor
