“The statue is based on a portrait from the Recueil d’Arras”
Stop once in front of the statue.
The image is based on the portrait from the Recueil d’Arras, one of the three rare self-portraits by Jheronimus Bosch.
So now that you look Jheronimus Bosch straight in the eye, you can also see the house to the right of him, where he grew up as Jheronimus van Aken and where his father most likely had a painting studio. This was confirmed during a reconstruction of the city fire of Den Bosch in 1463, in which it is stated that a painting studio was present here.
It is also worth mentioning that the building to the left of the ‘De Kleine Winst’, which is on the national monument list, completely collapsed on 27 February 2016. Presumably mistakes were made during the restoration work of this building on the corner of the market and the Hinthamerstraat.
Turn around again and walk past the ‘Onze-Lieve-Vrouwehuisje’ to the well house.
